Tobacco - Maniac Meat (2010)
Amazing followup to his first album! The track featuring Beck might be the best thing he’s done since Sea Change.

Rangers - Suburban Tour (2010)
“Rangers is Joe Knight from Dallas, Texas. He makes cosmic tape collages that are heavily rhythmic and psychedelic. He mixes bits and pieces of heavily processed and treated live recordings of guitar, keyboards, bass and percussion with samples of a wide variety of media (commercials, movie samples, jingles, etc.) and found sounds, culminating in long continuous pieces that are truly...

Modern psychedelic rock at its finest. So into this band! Similar to Spacemen 3 except it rocks a lot harder.

Red House Painters - Songs For A Blue Guitar...
I’m a huge Pedro The Lion fan and never really thought I would find another artist that comes close, until I discovered Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon. Have You Forgotten is such an amazing song. Recommended for any fans of singer/songwriter kind of stuff.

Tobacco - Fucked Up Friends (2008)
Great psychedelic hip hop album. Yeahhhh! Tobacco is a solo project of one of the guys in Black Moth Super Rainbow so you know it’s good. Plus one track has Aesop Rock rapping over it.

Six Degrees of Loveless →
postpunk:
By Douglas Wolk
When My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless arrived in late 1991, it was shockingly fresh, an overwhelming, densely beautiful record that seemed to bear almost no relation to anything that had come before it. Within months, baby bands started springing up that had clearly been inspired by Loveless to make music along the same lines; MBV’s torrential live performances only...

Various Artists - C86 (1986)
Amazing mid 80s indie/jangle pop compilation.
Ex-NME staffer Andrew Collins summed up C86 by dubbing it “the most indie thing to have ever existed”
Just get it, it’s good.

Post-Joy Division band. Really good stuff, especially if you’re a fan of Joy Division. A little more synth poppy which usually doesn’t sit well with me, but this rules.

Bailter Space - Robot World (1993)
Bailter Space (a.k.a. Bailterspace) was an atmospheric noise rock band that formed in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1986. This is my favorite album by them. One of my all time favorites! If you like any late 80s/early 90 shoegaze/noise rock stuff this should be right up your alley.

William Basinski - The Disintegration Loops I-IV
From Wikipedia,
“Loops is based on Basinski’s attempts to salvage earlier recordings made on magnetic tape, by transferring them into digital format; however, the tape had physically deteriorated to the point that, as it passed by the read/write head, the ferrite detached from the plastic backing and fell off. Basinki has alleged that he finished the project the morning of the...

Spacemen 3 - Taking Drugs to Make Music to Take...
SOUNDDD OF CONFUSSSIOONN! The recordings on here are mostly demos I think…a lot of the songs were re-recorded for their later more “polished” album Sound Of Confusion. I think I like this one better. Might just be because of the album name though. Sort of sounds like The Velvet Underground…kinda.

Explosions In The Sky
This band changed the way I listen to music. I’m posting their entire discography because it changed my life. The One Up Downstairs - EP (2002)
Before American Football, bassist Mike Kinsella (Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc) and drummer Steve Lamos played in The One Up Downstairs with Dave and Alan Johnson (both of Very Secretary). The One Up Downstairs recorded a 3-song 7” which was to be released by Polyvinyl. Prior to the single’s release, however, the group disbanded and despite having recorded material, the single was never released....

Amazing band. If Cap’n Jazz were still around today (REUNION?) I think this is the kind of music that they would be making. If you’re a fan of American Football, Joan Of Arc, Ghosts And Vodka, or any other Kinsella band you MUST give this a listen. Screamy math rocky jams never sounded so good!

SIANspheric - Somnium (1995)
Ethereal dreamy pop that borrows a bit from the shoegazing classics of the late ’80s and early ’90s. This is their debut album and doesn’t receive quite as much attention as their other ones, but I think it’s just as good for the most part. The first song I ever heard by these guys was Turbulent/Hydrodynamic which might be one of the reasons I have a thing for this...
